REPRESENTATION TO THE CHAIRMAN, NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR SCHEDULED CASTE ON BEHALF OF RAM SINGH @ AZAD AGAINST TORTURING HARASSMENT AND ATROCITIES

LAF was contacted through its website by a Journalist on behalf of one Ram Singh @ Azad resident of DDA Janata Flats, Safdarjung Enclave, New Delhi alleging torturing, harassment and atrocities nearby residents. Shri Ram Singh alongwith his wife were doing the job of ironing cloths of the families of the colony at B-7, Safdarjung Enclave, New Delhi-29 for the last 15 years under a tree and his parents were doing the job for the last 40 years from the same place. He belongs to Scheduled Caste community of Rajasthan and ironing cloths was the only source of income. He had no objection certificate cum declaration from the residents of the area. However, the General Secretary of Residents Welfare Association started harassing him and threatened him that he will ensure my removal from the area. Police complaint was filed by him against Shri Dua, but no action was taken. One day the concrete bench used for ironing the cloths was demolished. At this stage Ram Singh contacted LAF.

LAF after hearing the complete story from Ram Singh made a representation on his behalf addressed to the Chairman, National Commission for Scheduled Caste. Jayesh K.U. Joint Secretary, LAF also met the Hon'ble Chairman along with Ram Singh and made request to direct the SHO, Sarojini Nagar Police Station to provide security to him and his family. National Commission for Scheduled Caste has issued appropriate direction to the local police and thereafter no further grievance has been received from Ram Singh and his problem has been sorted out.
