Edavanakkad Gramapanchayat of Vypeen block in Ernakulam district was the second village selected for the implementation of soharthm project as it is one of the coastal villages that is always exposed to natural disasters like Tsunamy. The programme was conducted on 19 th april 2008 at Hidayathul Islam H.S.S, Edavanakkad. As a prelude to the implementation of the programme, an orientation was given to the elected representatives of the panchayath on 15 th march 2008. Field level work in the village with the support of panchayat commitee was also conducted.

Mr. Sherrif Mohammed, Member, Advisory Committee, Legal Assistance Forum, Kerala Chapter introduced the project and elaborated on the working of it to the attentive audience.

The function was presided over by Shri. V K Iqbal President Edavanakkad Gramapanchayat. Shri.P.K Razak, Vypeen block standing committee chairman was the guest of honor. The legal resource team consisting of Adv. Sreelal Warrier, Adv. Unnikrishnan, Adv. K Latha and Adv. Jeena trained about 100 community leaders from 14 wards of Edavanakkad village on the nuances of mediation, conciliation and the actual implementation of the project. 

All those who spoke in the occasion were of uniform opinion that Mediation is an instrument and the better solution for settlement of disputes and it will maintain harmony between two persons, families and members of society at large without entering into any type of argument or quarrel between them.
